[Here is a site for all feline lovers! If you want to read about cat escapades, this spunky webpage has it all, even an advice column written by a tabby, entitled "Dear Ollie." A must read. There is also a cat diary and photographs to entertain all. Also, you will find some poetry, tool sites and some international recipes!--ck]
Sass, spunk and intelligence are good words for this WebTV gal. She is creative, kind and loves cats. In fact, she has some great things for cat lovers. Want to know how I know so much about her? Judy was my first e-mail pal when I went online with WebTV.
She says now that her kids are grown and have families of their own, she is semi-retired. She decided last October that she needed something to occupy her mind. She went to Sears and purchased a Phillips WebTV Plus and a wireless keyboard. She said she had never had any experience with either computers or the Internet, so it was start from scratch.
Judy explained she first got a pen pal who turned out to live in the same state as she did (that was me). She further stated we spent many enjoyable hours talking back and forth. She also joined a cat discuss group. She was so impressed with all the cat photographs that she had to learn to make a signature of her own. After great struggles, she accomplished that with the help of the good people at APBH and Net4TV. [Well, thank you so much for the praise!]
In December of 1999, she decided to try her hand at Page Builder. Her first page, "Cutie Cats," was done in beginner mode with everything right where Page Builder thought it should go (but not where Judy wanted it). She then purchased a printer and went into every help site she could find to learn HTML.
Judy printed out every tutorial she could find, so she could hold it in her hand for referral as she worked on her page. Judy said she thinks she needs to buy a new file cabinet. "The old one is overflowing with HTML stuff."
She also joined in several help discuss groups. After visiting several sites, she checked in at homepage opinions (HPO) where she is now on staff and known as "The Banner Lady." This is the place she now considers HOME and really enjoys reading other web pages and "opinionating" them.
Judy chooses the people to receive the "HPO Frequent Poster Award" each week. She says, "Really creative people post there and we are always meeting the newbie talents and watching them grow into experts."
After making her first site, "The Cat Cottage", she started adding to it. She added things like a "Banner Exchange." Her "cat to cat" humorous advice column, Dear Ollie, written by her cat, Ollie, is cute and funny. She created a new site on another user, titled J's Universe, which is an index to all of her web pages.
J's Universe includes her philosophy, her own poetry, photopoint albums and an F-Key Recipe site. At this point, she says she needs more room and is now in the process of creating another F-Key Page at Domania. She commented, "Yes, I have to pay there, but no banners and being able to store midis makes it worthwhile."
Her main complaints about WebTV are that most of the upgrades involve adding so much to interactive TV and very little for the Internet users. She says she hasn't watched TV in months now. She feels that sometimes the changes they do make are to the things that were great in the first place. She adds, "Then I wish they would leave it alone." Judy says creating web pages is true fun and in doing so, she keeps learning as she goes. She says, "Am I a webaholic? You bet!"
