Have you ever jumped into something without really thinking about it? (Something that you really knew very little about but you just felt confident that you would be able to do it?) Well, that is what Dorie did. She jumped right in the middle of HTML and created her first web page in a week. Meet Dorie of Dorie's Find It Page.

Dorie has been on WebTV since March of this year. During that time, she has been collecting her favorite pages to use as links for her web site. So, when she was ready to make her page, most of the work was already done. Dorie's page has a smorgasbord of finds for WebTV surfers. It not only has HTML help, music pages, tool sites and image links. It also has links to:
  • genealogy
  • dogs
  • magazines
  • weather
  • fishing
  • hunting
  • angels
  • Bibles
  • camping
  • recipes

If that is not enough, she also has links to gardening, medical pages and even wrestling.

As you use her page, you can almost forget about your search key because she has already found it for you. I could not possibly hope to check out all her links in one visit.

When asked what was the hardest thing for her to grasp about HTML, she said, "I guess the hardest thing for me to master in HTML was learning the columns down the sides of my page. I knew what I wanted, but not how to do it all. Then I found Baby Dolls Emporium. Sarah (Baby Doll) had a code that did the columns. I copied and pasted it and then studied. I learned so much from seeing her code. From there, I adapted it for my own needs. I am so grateful to her and to others like her, too. When I see the codes, it starts clicking that little light bulb in my head. I learn better from seeing and playing around with codes."

Dorie continued, "I have made several friends online. Since I don't go out much, my online friends have been such a 'Godsend.' I cherish each and every one. A special one had to go offline for awhile. She was the one who directed me to HTML in my e-mail and got me interested in 'pretty pages.' Her name is Pamala."

She would also like to thank Draac, her "WebTV Pals E-Group" and "The Mechanic's" for all the help she has received from them.

I asked her if she spent much time online with WebTV. Her answer was, "LOL, (laughing out loud), oh, this question is funny. Yes, I spend a great deal of time online. I spend between 12-15 hours online every day, sometimes more. I get a lot of e-mail from my groups and spend a lot of time looking at sites that were posted. I spend time creating, either an e-mail page, my site, or even just going to Image Magic to play. I also created two f-key pages."

I asked Dorie to tell us more about herself. She said, "I live in Virginia. I have traveled a lot in my 45 years but there is no place like home! I live in the country. I love waking up to roosters crowing, cows mooing, and the smell of freshly plowed fields. I love the mountains, too. Virginia is just a beautiful state. I live in the Shenandoah Valley, which is rich with history of our nation. I spend most of my time on the Internet and my other hobbies are crafts. I do several different ones but my favorite one is floral design." She also told me she loves cats. Does she have a link for cats? But, of course she does. :-)

When asked what advice she would offer to the new ones learning HTML, Dorie replied, "Advice? I guess it would be to relax and don't get intimidated by it all. The basics are not really hard to grasp and, once you do, the rest starts falling in place. I am, by no means, a pro. But 'the lights went on in my head' and I look forward to learning still more."

[Community Editor's Notes: And how quickly you learned, Dorie. What a feat in so little time to put up a webpage. We so enjoyed finding links before we knew what it was we wanted to find. You must be a mind reader! The Cat's Cat Page was sure frisky. Many paw's hours went into this lovely and delightful webpage!!-ck]
