This profile is about an agent who was born in Norfolk, Virginia, but raised in San Diego, California. In 1992, he moved to a small town in Oregon by the name of Coos Bay. One of his missions, that may have seemed impossible at the time, was to have the Union Jack Flag flown at half staff in beautiful downtown Coos Bay to mourn the death of the beloved Princess Diana. Being half English, he found the need to ask the city to do this. The City of Coos Bay flew the Union Jack Flag at half staff. This agent wrote his Memorial of Princess Diana which is a moving page that includes the midi of Candle in the Wind by Elton John, and photos taken of the tributes given by some of the residents of Coos Bay.
Yes, this agent has a name. One he has proudly carried for thirty-nine years. His name is Neil Sumner, a.k.a. Neil Sumner. A simple nic for a not so simple man. Neil is an only child. He met Rita about twenty-two years ago. They have a twenty year old son by the name of Michael and a precious 18 month old granddaughter whose name is Hailey.
What is it that makes Neil not so simple? He took it upon himself to form a new newsgroup. One about Oregon, even though he only made his home here seven years ago. It is the alt.discuss.state.oregon newsgroup. He also made a State of Oregon homepage that required many
hours gathering the information and building it. The pages contain information of a huge variety, from the Oregon State Officials that includes their e-mail addresses, to an Oregon newspaper and news resource service. There are state facts, state parks, Oregon Online and so much more.
This, however, is not all of who Neil Sumner is. He is a man who went on a mission to build his website to his satisfaction. When you first click on Sumner's Place, you will find a page that allows the person to browse the site with either a WebTV or computer. There are popups that ask your name and reminds you to sign his guestbook. Further inside the pages of Neil Sumner is his life. The first thing that catches the attention of the visitor is the theme song to Mission Impossible. The song gives the
feeling that there are wondrous and exciting things to be investigated in this site. The beat of the music keeps the excitement mounting like it does in the movie. The need to check all the rooms out is great.
Neil began his mission with the alt.discuss.homepage.opinions newsgroup. He was asked to be on the staff of Home Page Opinions, where he made the Home Page Opinion's Birthday Club for the group. He is listed in the group of award winners on the Home Page Opinions Award Winners page. He spent a lot of time with this group until he founded the newsgroup for Oregon. Now he spends most of his time there.
Amongst some of the intriguing gadgets at Sumner's Place, one will find some exciting and plot thickening links to Midis, Wavs & More, background links, and secret instructions on how to make your own marquees. Neil has gone a little farther by supplying a cut & paste option on his Instructions for Marquees page. The marquees are ready for any agent who dares venture into this mission to grab the treasure right out of the text box. There are so many spine tingling rooms and if you ever had the want to know those illusive Cmd & Alt Key Codes, Sumner's Place is one of the places to go. He goes into
this in intricate detail.
Neil has recently moved his family from his Oregon home to one in Texas. Oregon will miss him for all he has done for her. He is the founder of the Oregon newsgroup and will always have a piece of Oregon with him. He does not leave behind the friends he made in Oregon because he will stay in touch through e-mail and the newsgroup. You see, Neil "recommends that people new to WebTV join a newsgroup or several of them, to get an idea of how things work and to make friends." Neil will make a lot of new friends and surely will keep all of his old ones.
[Community Editor's Notes: Neil, your secret agent tips are no longer secret. Oregon will miss you but now Texas will find it has a secret agent ready to embark on any mission you put your mind to decoding! Good luck on your adventures!--ck]
