Diana Walker - "Diving into Dolphin's Dreams!"

By BabyDoll
(February 13, 2000)

[Midi's, midi's and more beautiful midi's! Diana Walker has compiled a nostalgic list of songs including soft rock and a bit of the new age music! Something for everyone! Diana also has a page written by a furry feline and the tale this little one weaves will have you in stitches about her escapades! Sit back, relax and enjoy!--ck]

I would like to introduce you to Diana - aka Dolphin's Dreams. I asked her to tell me a little about herself and her family. What a journey we are about to take. This gal is very busy and always on the go.

Her real name is Diana Walker. Diana was born on Staten Island and moved from upstate New York to a small town, named Highland before her second child was born 33 years ago. She thought the schools and the environment for her children to grow up in would be better. (And she states it was!)

Diana has been happily married to Paul Deep Diver for 15 years. Paul helped her to raise her three children who are now all married with children of their own.

Diana and Paul love to travel to the islands of the Caribbean to engage in their favorite sport - "scuba diving" and "snorkeling." Diana is a retired bookkeeper so she has no time limit on when she can travel. They do still have to plan a bit around Paul's schedule, but it generally works itself out.

You may be asking what made her and Paul decide to purchase a WebTV system. (This is actually funny). Diana saw an advertisement on television about five years ago and thought she "just had to have it." So she raced to "Circuit City" where the salesman talked her into an RCA model called "NetChannel." She played around on that for approximately six months until they (NetChannel) went bankrupt. It was then that she discovered that it wasn't WebTV at all! (Buyer beware - accept no substitutions). After that fiasco, she and Paul purchased their first WebTV Plus unit. They are now on unit #2 after Diana burned out their video input jacks. (LOL!)

Diana also visits three main newsgroups several times a day. One is the Webville Newsgroup which is a very friendly, almost down home type of group. In fact, Diana has been working on a project for the group - Citizens Of Webville. It's a photo album and a great one at that! The second newsgroup she visits is the HTML Social Discussion Newsgroup. It is a spin-off of the main group where you can be off topic. Then last but not least, Diana goes to the HTML Discussion Newsgroup. This is where she goes when she has a serious HTML question, which she wanted to add, by the way, is always answered.

You will only find her in one chat room and that is Randy Barbour's Main HTML Chatroom. Diana teaches a class in there about how to transload. She has also created a photo album for this group called "Our HTML Chat Family". She told me that Randy Barbour is a genius for creating this wonderful teaching venue and that she is proud to be a part of it. "Hat's off" to her fellow instructors she would like to add!!!!!

Diana does not really spend a great deal of time on e-mails. She has a small circle of friends that she talks to several times a day. Diana did say she averages about 20 a day unless she is helping a newcomer, then Diana can be on most of the day. She loves to help people out and to teach them the correct way of doing HTML. She likes to help out whenever she can.

Diana, of course, like most of us, started learning HTML from Draac and the HTML newsgroup. If you ask 1,000 people, I'm sure you will get this same answer. At the risk of sounding repetitive, she learned first by asking questions (after finding the HTML newsgroup), then being referred to Draac's Gifs 123. (I believe that is how we all started out!) I like this part of talking with Diana. She said, "Did I learn it all? Not by a long shot. Every day is a learning experience." The most important lesson she has ever learned is "never be afraid to ask! The only stupid questions are the ones not asked." (I like that thought of hers).

Diana's first stab at a homepage was Dolphin Dream's Home. This was started 4 & 1/2 years ago. She kept it around for sentimental value. The site she is most proud of, however, is Dolphin Dream's Midi's. It hasn't even been up a year and yet it seems to be quite popular. If you like midi's, you won't want to miss this site. Diana has many to choose from.

She also told me about two other sites she has. They are simply considered to be "my rainy day pages." Check out Karma Kat's Page. Her cat wrote this one and it is so cute! If you should care to see pictures of Diana and her family, please feel free to visit "Meet My Family - another great page of hers.

What you will find on Diana's webpages, music wise, is mostly soft rock and new age music - anything that is soothing to the spirit. Diana realizes this music isn't for everyone but obviously a lot more people enjoy it than she had originally thought. There was a point when she almost scrapped the idea until she read this message in her guestbook: "This site touched so many different levels in me, it is hard to put it down in words. Some of the songs brought tears to my eyes, others brought a smile. Most of the songs are ones I have heard and liked myself. I thank you for taking the time and effort you put into this site. I thank you one last time from deep in my heart."

Since Diana is a seasoned veteran, I asked her if there was anything about WebTV that she liked or disliked. She stated, "I am not going to go with the flow. Sure there are a few bugs and we certainly could use our own transloader, but, to be perfectly honest, I love it!!!! People complain about the emphasis being on the TV part. To me, that is an easy one. There are two choices, Plus or Classic."

In closing, I asked Diana if there was anything else she would like to say to the Net4TV readers or anyone who she wanted to thank. She replied, "You know, I have looked at this question for the better part of a week now and I have to tell you, it is the one that terrifies me the most. There are so many people who have helped me that I couldn't possibly name them all. There simply isn't enough room here. I will, however, narrow it down for you - the entire HTML newsgroup! You certainly cannot find a more helpful group on the web. On a personal note, there is one person I simply must single out Paul Johnson! This man has devoted not only hours, but days straightening out any HTML mess I managed to get myself into. Thank you Paul, and everybody else who has helped to make my experiences on WebTV so wonderful. What a great group to be a part of."

[Community Editor's Notes: Diana, you and your husband look too relaxed on your trip! LOL! Your webpages are wonderful. Your "Karma Kat's Page" was a frolicking comedy to read! A feline beauty and dearest friend to you both! Remarkable story about the wee little human and the dunk tank!! --ck]
