Also, if you are a football fan of the Green Bay Packers, then you may be very interested in his webpages on his semi-pro Greenjackets football team! Yes, he is the proud owner of that team! And now, meet the man! Read on--ck]
There are a lot of people who have made a home in this widespread WebTV community of ours. They range from people who want others to know they exist, to information sites to help sites. There are people who not only give of themselves of their knowledge but those who give of themselves of their time. One such man who gives of himself is the owner/moderator of a ONElist e-mail group called GREENJACKETS Help List. His name is
Anthony Rossi, known to many as Tony.
He not only owns and moderates the GREENJACKET help list, but he owns the Greenjackets Football Team, a semi-pro football team. This team is linked to the Green Bay Packers.
Tony has been on television and has been highlighted in newspapers because of his involvement in football. The Green Bay Packers started playing football in 1920 and the Greenjackets started in 1928. If one wants to know the inside and outside of the Green Bay Packers, Tony is the man to meet. He not only has a high profile in sports but he has a very high profile and following in his
ONElist help group, GREENJACKETS Help List. He has 417 members and holding strong. He created this list on February 9, 1999.
So why being such a high profiled person in football does he start a help list? Tony is a man who loves scoring touchdowns. "I believe that organized football led me to help others. It is a very violent game and you have to work as a team in order to gain victory. Players have to look out for each other. When I help others, the e-mails I receive thanking me for helping (I have received hundreds of e-mails
thanking me) are like victories to me. That is my fulfillment. A touchdown."
A little personal information about Tony. He was in Cambodia for 364 days during the VietNam campaign. He saw "mankind at its worst." (This
being another reason he likes to help others) In his playing days, Tony was a cornerback on defense, then Head Coach and General Manager. He played football with the PAL (Police Athletic League), Pop Warner in high school and in college.
He has an all white German Shepherd named Samantha Louise (Sam for short) who is an ex-deputy sheriff. He says she "keeps him in line." He is not married and has two grown sons, Nick and Mike. He lives in Hudson Falls, N.Y. which is just south of Lake George and just north of Saratoga.
Tony started on the World Wide Web way back in 1995. He signed up for WebTV in 1997. Tony's Home Page and Website is chalk full of
photos, links to the National Football League, a very in-depth description of the official semi-pro Greenjackets Football Team, a complete rundown of the ins and outs of the Champions National Football League from 1920 to 1998, and a multitude of sports history.
Tony's ONElist help group is intended for "WebTV users to help other WebTV users with their e-mail and WebSites." In this list, everyone helps everyone else on the list by not only asking the questions but getting answers to them as well. The list generates a lot of e-mail but is well worth it for the help that is obtained. When the questions are asked, they are asked to the whole group. When they are answered, the same holds true. Thus, the entire group benefits from the questions and the answers. Tony "made this list kid safe so when a parent turns to his list for help, they do not worry that something inappropriate will appear on their screen." So far, the members range in age from pre-teen to seniors.
Another reason for starting the list is because Tony could help others through e-mail. In his e-mail is a compilation of "Help Links." The "Help Links" was the first thing Tony made when he got his WebTV. He has since transferred this list to a webpage, GREENJACKETS Help List, for easier access for those who may not see his e-mail. He does not just supply links for help but also invites people to e-mail him for help as well. Along with the e-mail help, the help of the ONElist, and the help from the extremely talented Justina, the lists co-moderator, more people can be helped than just on a one-on-one basis, although they still provide personal help without hesitation.
The new page that Tony finished transferring his e-mail help page to contains enough information and tools to keep the WebTV'er busy for several hours. He not only has links to WebTV help, but has links to some games on this page as well. One game, VPong, is a Ping Pong game. If anyone remembers the original Odyssey of eons ago, then you can visualize this game. (One of the first electronic games to come out.) There is an Angry Button that insists you do not push it, so be careful. This page even contains a link to the Internet Traffic Report so one can see how busy the internet is in different areas of the country at different times. It has links to the Camload at Starblvd, Tips & Codes, and many many more useful tools.
Tony claims that newsgroups and e-mail lists are very useful to the new WebTVer. He stated that years ago when Draac was building his website, they exchanged many e-mails where Tony expressed his desire to help others. Draac replied with "profound words" of time and aggravation that he was going through. His was a labor of love that took all his waking hours and today his site is an icon and well it should be." Back in those early days, however, there were not the short cuts to building a website like there is today. It took a lot of time that Tony did not have since he spent most of his time with the Greenjackets Football Team. For this reason, he put together his e-mail help list. Draac's words put him on the right track to helping others with the time he did have available. For this, Tony is grateful because of the success and rewards he has gotten out of helping others.
Tony also wanted to mention that he is an Amateur Radio Operator. (Ham Radio). He teaches students the basics of trying to obtain an Amateur Radio License in class as well as on the World Wide Web. His call sign is "KA2KCO."
He further imparted that he is affiliated with Yahoo!GeoCities. He "works" checking websites and helping people with their HTML.
