Make Your Own (Post-Upgrade) IRC Chat!

The latest WebTV upgrade has caused a lot of chats to stop working. The frustration of many a new WebTV chat creator has been foiled, yet again! Here's the newest changes for the old and new chat creators, provided in a bare essentials chat program. If you love playing Real Audio while chatting or listening to MIDI, this will show you how to make it not "cut-off" when you type a message.
I've tried to place a lot of comments in the chat program to allow you to easily make changes to customize it. There are 3 things you have to know in order to connect to a chat room. The chat HOST, like chat.net4tv.com, or chat.talkcity.com. The PORT number, usually 6667, but some like Talk City, connect at 7003. Lastly, the Channel name, or Room name as most call it. This chat is set to connect to the Net4TV chat server in the Lobby chat room. You can modify these simply by changing the code below under the headings; Chat Server Host, Chat Server Port, and Chat Server Channel.
You can change the background color and add a background image to the chat. Just change the color name in the tag or add background="image.gif" (or .jpg) to the tag. The displayed text will be appear on top of the color or image. Choose background images and colors wisely! You don't want your chat users squinting to read the text.
The chat title can be customized to your own preferred name too! Just change the code where it says, "My Chat Title Here". If you're up on your HTML, you can also change the , color= and size= to even make the style more to your liking!
Please be very careful when you make changes to the chat program. Sometimes, you can "break" a line when you edit the code. When you break a line, the chat usually won't work until it's fixed. A line of code that wraps to the next line can be checked by pressing the "backspace" key at the end where the line of code wraps to the next line. If the code moves up, just press the space bar to move it back. If not, you have a line of broken code. Go to the beginning of the next line and press the "backspace" key to move it up. Then go to the end of the line and press, "return" key. Editing the code using a text size of "small" helps to avoid this problem if you can view small text on your TV.
Happy Chatting with your new custom IRC! :)
