[Sarah has a homepage featuring free gifs, bars, animals, and audioscopes. She also has a site on "Wrestling Frenzy" and a "Tips of the week" archive.--ck]
Sarah, aka BabyDoll, is a lady who was born in Canada and comes from a "fairly large family" of 6 sisters and 2 brothers. She now lives in Pearl, Mississippi with her husband, Larry, aka Sleazy Smurf. Together, they have two children...Chance who is 9 years old, and Caleb who is 16 months. She has worked as a manager for the last 18 years in fast food and retail until she hurt her back in September of 1998 when a wall she had noted being dangerous fell down on top of her. This accident caused her to have a lot of time on her hands.
It seems that BabyDoll could not bend, lift, stoop, reach above her head, or work over five hours a day due to this accident. The things this lady has had to deal with including Workman's Comp and trying to get back on her feet makes her a remarkable lady. She has gone through physical therapy for 6 months to rebuild the strength in her legs and back. She has what is known as S.I. joint which is located in her lower back around her hips. It locks up on her and can cause her legs to collapse right from underneath her at times. She has had to endure wearing an "ugly brace" around her waist and back. She also uses a cane for support. She was told by her doctor that she will have to learn to live with this for the rest of her life. So her life with WebTV begins.
I asked BabyDoll why she chose the WebTV over a computer and she said that she and her husband saw an infomercial about the Classic units. When they called about the Classic, they were told that the Plus system was also available and that it was being sold locally. So they "charged" right out and bought one.
Sarah may be known as BabyDoll but she is not a young one to the web! She has been online with WebTV for almost a year now. It was October of 1998 that she became introduced to WebTV and she has been a busy doll ever since. Her homepage, BabyDoll's Free Gifs, is far from being the HTML of a young one to WebTV. She said that a dear friend, FURLER, made her BabyDoll design for her. She calls it the "tables within tables." She loved the design so much that she did another site called BabyDolls Wrestling Frenzy. This is her wrestling site. She loves WCW. Her hero being DDP/Diamond Dallas Page. To BabyDoll, wrestling is a soap opera just like day time television and she is hooked. "I am a wrestling fan although I do not like WWF for what they did to Brett, The Hitman Hart, but I do like Stone Cold Steve Austin, The UnderTaker, Triple H, and Six Pac."
BabyDoll has strolled out into the super highway and has made so many friends "that it isn't funny." When she first started on the internet, she went to the chatrooms. She found a place called "Finders," which is a game where one big word comes up and you have to make as many words out of it as you can. She made a special friend there who goes by the nic, pootiebear. Pootiebear was the one responsible for her getting interested in homepage building. BabyDoll didn't know the first thing about HTML, so she put her trust in pootiebear to help her out. Her first homepage attempt was done using the easy editor because she didn't know HTML. The page was so full of animations that it took about 4 minutes to load.
When BabyDoll would get stuck, Pootiebear would go into her homepage for her and re-do the mess that she made. She trusted her with her password and name and found pootiebear was so wonderful and honest. Pootiebear put music and a background on the page for her. This was about the time she discovered Draac's Free Gifs. "I think most of us have learned from Draac" and the alt.discuss.html newsgroup.
It was time, devotion, and the influence of a friend, Donna, aka Catladie, who inspired Baby to take her "sites one step further and do HTML the right way." Now she is helping out where she is needed. She will not make pages for others, but she will walk them through it until they can do it themselves.
When asked what, if any, newsgroups or e-mail groups BabyDoll frequented, her list was almost as long as the help and gifs on her pages. She started at alt.discuss.html where she sends a special thank you and regard to Dr. Draac, Warp Speed, The WebTV Guru, The Professor, SkiHound, Owens4 (John and Cathy), Rowdy, Worf, Absent minded professor, and so many, many more too numerous to mention them all. She regards all of them as her mentors. From there she moved on to alt.discuss.homepage and joined that group of fine people. This was not what she was searching for though. She was looking to belong to a group where she could be involved and feel a part of the group. Lo and behold her husband found the newsgroup she was searching for.
The group she soon became a big part of is alt.discuss.homepage.opinions, HPO for short. "Now let me tell you about this wonderful group of nice and friendly people...first the founders, George and Mary (who have formed a new newsgroup called, alt.discuss.anything.friendly). They are two very nice people who are still with HPO but spend most of their time now at "anything friendly" but they are still in charge of HPO's webring. Now the president of HOP is Brent, aka Dr I.R. Opinions. He is very talented and knows his HTML." BabyDoll is on the staff at HPO where she helps tutor new people and gives advice on homepages. She has matured enough by now to help with HTML codes and anything that one may need.
Upon writing this profile, BabyDoll received some pretty exciting news. She was asked to be Vice-President of HPO. "Our president, Brent, has done a fantastic job with HPO, but being a sophomore in high school, his time is limited. So he has decided to make me Vice-President." Together, they will share the responsibilities of HPO. (Brent in the summer time and BabyDoll in the winter) She received another wonderful letter that brought a tear to her eyes. It was a thank you letter for helping someone learn good simple HTML. Not so simple for the one learning, though. The letter went on to say, "It is an honor to know you."
Our busy Baby is in charge of "Tips Oƒ The Week Archive" which is an archive full of tips and short cuts that people send to her. In return for receiving these tips, the one who sent them will get credit for the tip and a link to their site. There is also a newspaper that comes out bi-weekly. BabyDoll writes short articles for this HPO newspaper. Amongst her, there is GGeppetto, Cyber-Junkie, Angel, and the rest of the staff at HPO ready and willing to help a person out.
BabyDoll does not stop there. This energetic mother of two also posts "TIPS" usually to five newsgroups at a time: alt.discuss.html, alt.discuss.homepage, alt.discuss.homepage.opinions, alt.discuss.anything.friendly, and last but not least, alt.discuss.audioscopes. When she finishes with her tips, BabyDoll is back to work with her pages.
Another great page is BabyDolls F-Key Saver. It is filled with wonderful links and so many helpful sites.
(Personal note from BabyDoll: "Thank you Catladie, Pootiebear, and Furler")
