What is Friends of Net4TV?

As you undoubtedly know, a lot of the dot.coms are in financial straits these days, if they aren't dead already. Some got there from overspending or having a bad idea. Some got painted with a broad brush by venture capitalists who are themselves hurting for cash and good ideas. Other dot.coms got there because the companies they serve and make their living from fell on hard times and stopped paying their bills.

Net4TV has never overspent, or failed to pay our bills. You, our business customers, and we think we have great ideas. But some of the companies that we do business with have fallen on hard times, and have endured layoffs and budget cuts. We've had companies fail to pay invoices, renege on contracts, and cancel contract negotiations when their boards told them to tighten their belts.

As a result, we are scrambling to figure out how we, as a company, will continue eating. What money we do make from Net4TV Voice is from our affiliate and advertising relationships. Unfortunately, a series of failures in WebTV's software and service has caused the tracking systems for these affiliate programs to fail. So, sites serving WebTV users often don't get paid for ads or sign-ups. This has greatly hindered our hopes and plans for Net4TV. We are doing our best to work around these problems, but we haven't come up with a solution yet. Until then, thank you for standing by us. We do appreciate it.

As you may know, it's always been a struggle for us to get Net4TV Voice out on time. Now, there are only a couple of us here and we're scrambling to do paying work that can keep us alive. And right now, we aren't taking salary to pay our rents and mortgages. This can't go on indefinitely, so we are focusing on paying business to keep the company alive and bring it back to the point where we can provide the services and content that mean so much to many of our loyal community, and frankly, to earn our honest living. We are pursuing everything we can, and are reducing our overhead to a minimum to give us the best chance of staying alive.

Many people have asked us how they could help. We resisted for a long time because we don't ever want to make promises we can't keep. But, the situation is such that every little bit of help we can get may make a difference in our survival, so we will gladly accept it if offered.

We will gratefully accept any donations that anyone would like to make. We're not organized as a not-for-profit so there isn't a tax deduction, and we can't guarantee that we'll be able to make it even so: our core overhead is about $5,000 a month, just for office, connectivity, and utilities. But we're going to give it our best shot, and we're hoping to do enough business to carry the load and to pay for anything beyond that.
